Crafted by nature. Refined by intuition.

Excellence begins with a discerning gaze

Instinct Born of Experience

Traditionally, the mastery of a tailor is judged by their ability to craft bespoke garments without the need for precise measurements. Instead, they delicately balance precision and intuition, trusting in their expert eye above all else. The Rock of Eye cannot be taught; it can only be earned through perseverance, passion, and practice.

At Rock of Eye, we embrace this same philosophy in our winemaking.

After three decades spent honing his expertise locally and abroad, award-winning winemaker Coenie Snyman returned to his hometown of Stellenbosch, South Africa’s historic wine region. Here, he interprets the unique terroir of the region to produce investment-grade wines that are a harmonious blend of science and art, imbued with the spirit of the harvest and the passion of a master craftsman.

Wine is a celebration of the intricate dance between the land and the winemaker, a reminder that sometimes you don’t need to measure – you just know.

Cinsault (Case of 6)
An opulent expression of fruit

Cinsault

After fading from popularity as tastes shifted to heavier reds, Cinsault is softly staging a global comeback that reflects a move back to lightness, culminating in an approachable crowd-pleaser ideal for long, sunny days.

Planted in 1992, this single-site Cinsault grows on the Helderberg, False Bay, and Stellenbosch foothills in a low-lying vineyard nestled in the ancient, sandy sea bed.

Elegant & easy drinking

Chenin Blanc

Planted in 1980, the bush vines of this single-site Chenin Blanc lie on the slopes of the beautiful Simonsberg, where they face the south-west and are enriched by red soil comprising decomposed granite and Table Mountain sandstone.

About Coenie

Meet the Winemaker

Coenie Snyman is a South African winemaker and the founder of Rock of Eye. Born and raised in Stellenbosch, he has spent the better part of three decades honing his Rock of Eye in the local and international wine industry. A recipient of the 2009 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award and a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild, Coenie founded Rock of Eye to create a portfolio of investment-grade wines that are true expressions of their – and his – distinct birthplace.

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
