Cinsault

This wine showcases the unique red “gateway wine” potential that Cinsault can express as a single varietal. It is an expression of a lighter style of red wine that bridges the gap between a fruity Chenin and a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon.

Elegant & refreshing

An Opulent Expression

The grapes for our Cinsault wine are from a low lying, bushvine single vineyard with sandy soils at the  edge of False Bay – just inside the Stellenbosch region.
The goal is to capture a moment in the life of the vineyard in 2022.

Coenie’s goal with this wine is to capture freshness and elegance while expressing the fruit in an opulent way.

With the early revival of single varietal Cinsault in South Africa, Coenie is looking to unlock the unique expression of Cinsault in Stellenbosch.

The grapes were harvested in a single pick from bush vines to capture a single expression of the fruit. The grapes were then fermented in open top fermenters and punched down manually 3 times a day for optimal extraction. The wine is then matured for 6 months partially in a concrete egg to preserve the fruit and the freshness and partially in older barrels to ensure smooth and integrated tannins.

This results in a medium bodied red wine with complex layers of fruit, juicy tannin and a refreshingly dry finish.
